The Detroit Area Marines Foundation (THE DAM) gathered with Marines, veterans, families, and friends to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps at our 3rd Annual Best DAM Ball. It was an evening filled with pride, reflection, and the kind of esprit de corps that reminds us why this community is so special.

Who we are: THE DAM represents a dedicated group of Marines, veterans, and supporters who work year-round to preserve our traditions and strengthen our community—and we were thrilled to welcome everyone to this year’s Ball.

A Night Built on Gratitude

First and foremost, thank you to MWSS-471 and their Company Commander, Captain Truong, for collaborating with us on the Ball ceremony. Your professionalism and partnership set the tone for a meaningful celebration that honored the Corps and all who’ve worn the uniform.

We were privileged to host our Guest of Honor, retired USMC Major David Goudreau. Major Goudreau’s presence and remarks added depth and inspiration to the evening, reminding us of the Marine values that continue to guide our lives—on active duty, in the reserves, and long after we hang up the uniform.

Community Makes It Possible

We extend heartfelt thanks to the 27 sponsors who supported this year’s Ball. Your generosity allowed us to keep the event memorable and cost-friendly for Marines and their guests—lowering barriers so more of our brothers, sisters, and loved ones could be part of the celebration.

Our sincere appreciation also goes to the Mirage Banquet Center and their outstanding staff. From logistics to service, your team helped everything run smoothly so our guests could focus on the fellowship and meaning of the night.

The Team Behind the Scenes

Every great event stands on the shoulders of a dedicated committee. Please join us in a loud OORAH for the volunteers who poured heart and hustle into this year’s Ball:

  • Rebecca & Andre Salamy

  • Michelle & Rich Pointe

  • Kara Malburg

  • Jaclyn Ullmann

  • Nicole Brooks

  • Frank Smith

  • Mark Jenkins

  • Miguel Sandoval

Your planning, late-night texts, spreadsheet magic, and attention to detail brought this celebration to life.

Looking Ahead

As we honor 250 years of Marine Corps history, we’re just as focused on the years ahead—continuing to support Marines and their families across the Detroit area, strengthening our network, and preserving the traditions that bind us together.

From everyone at THE DAM: THANK YOU for celebrating with us, supporting our mission, and proving once again that this is the Best DAM community anywhere.

Until next year—Semper Fidelis.
